Just a few days ago, Fortnite announced they hit 8 million players all playing at the same time.
This is a huge milestone and no other game can even come close to the phenom game.
The game is expected to generate somewhere around $2 billion dollars in revenue by the end of the year. A lot of people thought Epic Games was crazy for making this a free game. But it has turned out to be the best decision they could have made.
How Does Fortnite Make Money?
Everyone can play Fortnite as much as they want and they can do it for free. However, you can purchase cosmetics with Vbucks, which you can earn in-game and buy with cold, hard cash.
People like to look cool in the games they play. This has always been a thing, dating back to the 90s.
These cosmetic items can cost anywhere from $10 to $20 dollars worth of Vbucks. So Epic is raking in the cash.
Another smart move was to release the game on every platform imaginable. This gave them a leg up on the competition. And by competition, we mean PUBG.
No one is sure if Epic and Fortnite can sustain this kind of success. PUBG is free for a limited time and about to become available on PS4. On top of that, The new Call of Duty battle royale in Black Ops 4 is starting to get some hype.
At the end of the day, 8 million people is bonkers and no one is coming close to touching that number. Epic needs to take a moment to pat themselves on the back. And while they’re at it, they should pat Ninja on the back as well.
The whole world has battle royale fever right now. Until a new flavor of game is released to the public, The Digital Worm is pretty sure the battle royale games will stay on top.
